After using Norton Power Eraser (happy me, no crimeware found) I’m confronted with a very special file called “bootlog_NPETraceSession.etl " (filer: Documents and Settings/Admin/Local Settings/NPE” eating up all the free space on my harddisk. I tried the Norton Removal tooI without success; I still can not find the proces that produces this file. Any known solution?

Norton Power Eraser is not a suitable tool for a second opinion scanner. It is very aggressive and as a result, much more likely to throw false positives, which is what I believe it has found on your machine. Norton has also been finding .msi files as suspicious when scanning in safe mode.

After running Norton Power Eraser as was reccommended by Norton the computer has stopped booting. After running startup repair several times no cause to the problem can be found. I then attempted to restore thee system to the point before I ran Power Eraser. Still no dice. I'm now running a memory diagnostic. I will edit the post once I get results. Any ideas?

I have run power eraser 4 times now to scan my hard drive, each time it gets to Processing Data and just stays there. I have to shut it down manually, the Cancel button won't even work. Is it my computer or is something else wrong?

Thought I should scan it since he's computer illiterate. First I scanned it with Norton Internet Security 2011. Scanned it and it found quite a bit of viruses. NIS2011 removed them just fine. Then I went to use Norton Power Eraser to ensure this hard drive is clean. It found many threats. Checked to remove them. NPE told me to restart. I restarted.
